Wells Water PurificationMost people use water from public water sources where public water purification systems are installed. But still many people use water from their own wells. The owner of the well is in charge of its condition and the water quality. Usually private wells are not regulated by the government and the owner has to maintain it by himself/herself. As a rule when the well is installed the water is tested on the amount of microbiological particles and other contaminants. But after that all the responsibility lies on the owner. It’s his/her free choice to monitor the quality of water. But the amount of water-borne diseases has increased greatly in the recent years. That’s why it’s necessary for the owners to examine the quality of well water. First tests are usually taken when the well is bought. It’s recommended to make tests at least once a year to maintain the quality of water. Extra tests should be taken if the taste or smell of well water has changed or if any changes of the well have been made (new pumps, maintenance systems). After moving the industry into another area it’s worth testing the water again. If a baby is expected in the house it’s better to check the water beforehand and during the first months of the baby’s life. Water can be tested for the presence of different contaminants. So to choose the test you should know what contaminants are more widely spread in your area. Local health department can provide you with all the necessary information. According to the type of the contaminant you can choose the method of water purification and water filters most suitable for you. It’s necessary to test water for coliform bacteria, nitrates, copper, lead and hardness. Then the corresponding water filters are to be installed. Well Maintenance should become a regular process. Several measures can help you to make water safe. It’s recommended to inspect the exposed parts of the well. This will help you to notice in time cases of corrosion, find damaged places, broken caps. You can install a well cap so that other people should not use your water in an unauthorized way. Keep records on how long ago you checked the well for the last time. Use professional help for installation and modification of the well. Try not to use chemical (pesticides, fuels, etc) near the well. Consult your health department and find out the information about the ecological situation in your region especially about new bacteria. Ask them to contact you in case an infectious disease (especially water-borne) is spreading in your area. |
