Compare Different Water Filters

During the last decades technologies have gone so far forward that a lot of new water filters came into existence. New water purification methods have been invented and they are used alongside with traditional ones. But to choose the right water filter you need it’s better to learn more about the water purification in advance so that you may know what you actually need.

Long time ago a water purification method called distillation was invented.

The essence of distillation is quite simple. In Ancient Babylonian people interested in water purification noticed that when the water is heated all the contaminants remain separated. Then the pure water can be collected in a separate container. During the distillation all the substances with a boiling point higher than 100 degrees are separated from water. Then the system can be used many times. But it needs a lot of energy for boiling.

Another popular water filter is ion exchange water filter. In purification technologies it’s extremely useful when dealing with hard water. (Hard water contains a lot of calcium and magnesium, which makes it difficult to heat the water properly, to do the washing, to form the foam, and besides hard water irritates our skin).

What’s the advantage of this method of water purification is that after coming through an ion exchange water filter the water still contains useful minerals but the amount of minerals is balanced.

Reverse Osmosis Water Filters
Reverse osmosis water purification system bases on the principle of semi-membrane that allows certain types of particles to pass through it while others are trapped.
During its passing through a reverse osmosis water filter the water is separated from many contaminants. But the price of this water filter can be very high. And it uses a lot of water and electricity. If you want to use the water purified with reverse osmosis purification technology you can find the taste of water poor.

Carbon water filters
Carbon filters were first widely introduced during World War I. They were used in face masks against chlorine. Today its application has changed. They were transformed into water filters and are of great help in the whole house water purification systems.
The whole house water purification system usually needs to remove only some chemical that are left after water passing through the public water purification systems.
Carbon water filters successfully cope with these tasks and can also soften the water you drink and bathe in.

Carbon water filters are often combined with ion exchange water filters. This combination of water filters make the water pleasant and healthy to drink.
